Overview
We gathered input from Albertans to help us build an effective and affordable system to resolve disputes between condominium owners, managers, boards and corporations.
To develop a fair condominium dispute resolution tribunal without unnecessary red tape, the engagement explored the following topics:
- tribunal funding, including yearly contributions from owners and user fees
- resolution processes
- public disclosure of decisions
Under the current system, backlogs in Alberta courts, court system complexity and a lack of affordable dispute resolution processes prevent the condominium community from efficiently accessing justice.
Previous consultations identified the need to create a tribunal – an overseeing body that would hear disputes and help resolve them through negotiation, mediation or adjudication (judgement).

We’re continuing our work on the tribunal as part of a larger discussion on several issues within the condominium sector through government's condominium property legislation engagement.
